Privacy, without the fine-print fog.

1. Who this policy covers

This privacy policy explains how Hearken Systems LLC (“Hearken,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information in the Symblem app for Mac, iPad, and iPhone, and on the Symblem pages at hearken.io/symblem.

2. Information stored on your device

Symblem stores your button designs, collections, export profiles, favorites, recent items, settings, and related app data locally on your device. This content can include button names, symbols, labels, colors, layout choices, and other design details. Hearken does not receive this content.

Symblem does not require you to create a Hearken account. If you choose to export or share an image or library backup, you control the destination through Apple’s standard file picker or share sheet. The destination may be local storage, iCloud Drive, or another service you select, and that destination’s privacy terms apply.

3. Anonymous app analytics

Symblem uses TelemetryDeck to collect privacy-preserving product analytics. These analytics use an installation- or device-scoped identifier and standard technical context such as app version and device or operating-system information. We use this data to understand reliability and broad feature usage.

Symblem may record events such as:

• app launches;
• button creation and duplication;
• copy, file export, sharing, and drag-out actions;
• consumption of the included free output actions and reaching that limit;
• newsletter prompt display or link opening; and
• completion of the one-time purchase.

Symblem does not send button content, button names, UUIDs, symbol identifiers, label text, email addresses, Apple account information, or payment information to TelemetryDeck. We do not use analytics for advertising, personalization, or cross-app tracking.

4. iCloud and Apple services

Symblem uses Apple’s iCloud key-value storage to keep the count of used free output actions consistent across devices associated with your Apple ID. Your button library is not automatically uploaded or synced by Symblem.

Purchases and purchase restoration are processed by Apple through StoreKit. Apple may provide Symblem with entitlement and transaction status needed to unlock the app, but Hearken does not receive your full payment-card details. Apple’s handling of information is governed by Apple’s privacy policy.

5. Newsletter and website forms

If you voluntarily subscribe to the Symblem newsletter, the email address you submit is processed by Buttondown, our email delivery provider. We use it only to send the updates you requested, such as design tutorials, workflow tips, and button templates. Newsletter signup is never required to use Symblem or unlock app functionality.

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter email. If you contact us directly, we receive the information you choose to include in your message so we can reply.

6. Sharing, selling, and advertising

We do not sell or rent personal information. We do not show ads, build advertising profiles, or share information for targeted advertising. Information is shared only with service providers described in this policy when needed to operate Symblem, deliver the newsletter, process purchases, or comply with law.

7. Retention and your choices

Local app data remains on your device until you delete it or remove the app, subject to Apple’s device backup behavior. Anonymous analytics are retained according to TelemetryDeck’s service settings. Newsletter information is kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, except where limited retention is required for legal or security purposes.

You can delete local designs inside Symblem, remove local app data by deleting the app, unsubscribe from email at any time, or contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of personal information we control. Because app analytics are not tied to a Hearken account or your identity, we may not be able to associate an anonymous analytics record with you.

8. Children’s privacy

Symblem is a general-audience design tool and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the website, please contact us so we can address it.

9. Security and international processing

We use reasonable safeguards appropriate to the information we handle. No storage or transmission method is completely secure. Our service providers may process information in countries other than the one where you live, subject to their safeguards and applicable law.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Symblem or its supporting services change. We will post the revised policy here and update the effective date above. Material changes will be communicated in a reasonable way when required.
