Ken Garff Red Zone at Rice-Eccles Stadium

As the Ken Garff Red Zone neared completion in 2021, the original electrical team realized they were a bit in over their heads. I stepped in as the Lead Programmer and helped the installers make sense of the plans by filling in the technical gaps where they were stuck. This $80M expansion was ready by kickoff, and thanks to the NVX AVoIP system, 30+ TVs were online, giving the fans inside almost as good a view as those outside.

Project Overview

There were dozens of 85" TVs that could display everything from Xfinity (cable TV) to the game countdown timer on the club house lobbies on the 2nd and 3rd floors. When the system was commissioned, there were (10) NVX encoders and more than (30) NVX decoders, in addition to (5) touch panels with independent controls.

Xfinity controls are available from the lock screen so the waiting staff can control the TV sources when the room is used for events (other than a football game).

Multiple audio sources were available for each of the 5+ zones in this space.

Each audio zone has independent volume control.

A custom lock screen prevents unauthorized employees or guests from tweaking settings they ought to not know about.
